Surgeon Dr. Mehmet Yalım Uçtum
I am Mehmet Yalım Uçtum. I was born in 1980 in the district of Antakya, Hatay. I completed my primary and secondary education in Iskenderun, and then I began to study medicine at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. Having graduated from Ege University in 2004 with the title of Medical Doctor, I began to work for achieving the title of Surgeon Doctor, which I dreamed of. I took the TUS (The Central Examination for field of Specialization in Medicine in Turkey) and was entitled to attend the specialty training that I targeted.
In 2005, I started my specialty training on General Surgery at Istanbul Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospital. After an intensive study period of 5 years, I completed my thesis titled “Causes, Treatments and Interventions in Incisional Hernias,” published my first medical article, and managed to get the title of General Surgery Specialist in 2010. Immediately after being a specialist, I completed my compulsory service between 2011 and 2012 in the district of Kızıltepe, Mardin, my first place of duty.
After my compulsory service, I worked as a General Surgery Specialist and a chief physician between 2012 and 2013 at Manisa Soma Private Vefa Hospital.
Between 2013 and 2016, I worked in the advanced laparoscopic surgery, bariatric surgery and oncological surgery clinic at Eskişehir Acıbadem Hospital, carried out studies with intent to improve my professional skills and develop my specialty in different fields. By doing this, I took a big step in the way of making the name Mehmet Yalım Uçtum one of the best ones in his field. In the meantime, I gained considerable experience from thousands of surgical operations and indications, and became the head of the obesity unit of İzmir Private Karataş Hospital in 2016. In 2019, I opened my own private clinic called İzmir Bariatrics, in order to provide my patients with more professional and elaborative service, and to make an effective contribution to Izmir’s fight against obesity.
